tooth STAINS can be classified in one of two ways:
- Extrinsic - Stains that appear on the surface of your teeth.
- Intrinsic - Stains that live between the micro-cracks in your enamel and deep within your dentin (the layer of your tooth underneath your enamel).
Whitening toothpastes and mouth rinses may be able to remove some of the extrinsic stains on your teeth. But only teeth whitening agents can remove the stubborn intrinsic stains that cause your teeth to look discolored.
After an examination and cleaning have already been completed, we will take impressions and fabricate home custom bleaching trays. We recommend you brush with Sensodyne toothpaste for two weeks prior to the whitening. This toothpaste will help relieve any sensitivity which may be a short-term result of the professional whitening.
We recommend using a 10% carbamide peroxide gel that penetrates the enamel and allows oxygen molecules from the whitening agent to whiten the entire tooth.
